Pursue greatness, live passionately, and do so unapologetically.
Or abide by the standards of a generation of nihilism
It’s hard to explain why I enjoy writing. I’m certainly not the most articulate or grammatically correct. But I do love to share my own knowledge, things I am researching, or any other topics I just feel like writing about and sharing. To all of you who have subscribed, I’m grateful you’ve come along! It’s a small list that has grown over time and is truly satisfying to share information with you.
Maybe the satisfaction from writing is the physical act of taking a web of thoughts and forming a cohesive argument or explanation, tying everything together in an ingestible format and allowing others to learn what I am learning / have learned. That’s probably why I’ve posted more articles more in the last 6 months than I ever have. This ties into another topic - passion. Two pieces of content spurred the need to align my thoughts into something real.
The first, a thread on a lack of ‘seriousness’ and passion in life, which concludes with “Pursue greatness, live passionately, and do so unapologetically.”
Although the thread is specifically on zoomers I think that ideology has spread throughout all areas of society and has a greater impact than just them.
The author’s approach mainly discusses romantic relationships, but it really touches everything. Your health, fitness, career, friends, and of course romantic relationships. Nothing new has been created, only found. The idea of living passionately and attacking life has existed…forever. But of course we’re now in an inflection point of blasé attitudes in general. How unfortunate.
The interesting thing about the AG community is - the opposite. I have only found people extremely passionate about their craft. People who have either made EXTREME changes in their lifestyle or those who are in OUTRAGEOUS shape, pushing their physical limits in a wide variety of career fields. And to be host to some of that discussion is extremely gratifying. A strange collective of individuals who’ve never met and follow a green skull on the internet. Fascinating.
The second piece of content that spurred today’s writing is a 3-year old Joe Rogan clip on Henry David Thoreau’s quote:
“The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. What is called resignation is confirmed desperation. From the desperate city you go into the desperate country, and have to console yourself with the bravery of minks and muskrats. A stereotyped but unconscious despair is concealed even under what are called the games and amusements of mankind. There is no play in them, for this comes after work. But it is a characteristic of wisdom not to do desperate things..”
And yes yes this isn’t some faux philosophical discussion based on my ever shrinking true knowledge of the outside world with Dunning-Kruger in full effect. It’s just sharing a fascination in the weakening of passion in the world (haven’t had to flip a desk at work in a while). The bottom line, reject the standards of a generation of nihilism, pursue greatness, live passionately, and do so unapologetically. Nobody cares and legacy is a myth (do you even know the first name of your great-great-grandfather?).
Cheers✌️
